Data changelog

A dated record of real changes to PlainCostOfLiving’s data and methodology — corrections applied, source-pipeline updates, and methodology revisions. Every entry here corresponds to an actual change in our codebase; we do not log routine data refreshes with no substantive change, and we never backfill or invent entries. See our corrections process for how a reported error becomes an entry here, or report a data issue.

  1. Corrected country price-level indices

Fixed a data-truth defect where several countries’ price-level indices were loading from the wrong source pull; re-loaded from the archived Eurostat/OECD extract so every country reflects the correct published index.

  2. Rebuilt the Eurostat source pipeline for reproducibility

Added an archival fetch step (fetch-eurostat.mjs) for the Eurostat prc_ppp_ind (price-level indices, 2022-2024 across 7 categories) and ilc_di03 (median net income) series, so every rebuild pulls from a versioned, diffable archive instead of a live endpoint.

  3. Corrected the European cost-of-living corpus

Fixed a data-truth defect that had bound the site to a false "38-OECD" tax framing; rebound the corpus to the actual published Eurostat data.

  4. Added a source-release freshness calendar

Added a page tracking when each underlying data source (Eurostat, OECD) is expected to next publish, so readers can see when the next real refresh is due.

  5. PlainCostOfLiving launched

    Initial portal deployment.
